So 2015 ended up being a trying year; my husband was out of work for a couple of months and the job he is currently working is a limited contract out of state, we had unexpected losses wit our rabbit kits, two of our companion animals (a cat and our oldest dog) died tragically, and I had unfortunate losses in my garden. These were pretty discouraging, but we also had some real wins; I learned some new propagation techniques and have successfully cloned roses for the first time, our orchard gave us our first measurable outputs, and my husband took up a new hobby-making wine. My two favorites were mulberry and plum! He even made a cherry wine my friend loved so much she had it at her wedding reception.
Needless to say, we are ready to start the new year with some new plans.
I am starting my garden with a plan to greatly increase the volume of production of several produce items; tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, and melons. My plan is to have a produce stand right here at the house. To that end I have developed a label and started networking with local folks interested in buying what I grow.
Finally, I am expanding what I do here by learning to edit videos so I can begin to share my experiences in a new way.
Wishing everyone the best in the coming year as we move to being independently sustainable!
